I love me a good smut fic as much as the next girl, but is it really too much to ask for them to keep the characters from going OOC just so that the plot can work? There are a lot of examples of this, but I want to talk specifically about Cas. Most fics seem to present Cas’ first sexual experience in one of two ways. He’s either retardedly innocent and has no idea what is going on, or he’s a raging horn toad.

Innocent!Cas is unrealistic because Cas has been around for centuries. He may not get porn, but he knows the basic mechanics. He knows how sex works, and why people do it. The opposite view of him dominating Dean and pulling out all the kinky shit is equally dumb. Remember that he didn’t understand why you’d slap someone you loved as foreplay?

Which brings me to my main subject. People seem to assume that Cas would have the sex drive of a normal human male. You’ve probably figured out where I’m going with this; Cas isn’t human. He is an angel. As far as I know, angels do not reproduce through intercourse. It follows that, on his own, Cas probably doesn’t experience sexual attraction. Basically, he’s asexual.

Of course, there’s another factor at play here: his vessel. Jimmy was indeed a normal human male and probably had that normal human sex drive. We saw in the episode with Famine that Cas feels the physical desires of his vessel’s body, but can usually suppress them with relative ease.

I think that would be a really great subject for a short fic. I would just love to see something that explores Cas experiencing sexual attraction and finding it perplexing. Rather than freak out and go all innocent and blushy about it, he should be his usual, blunt self.

That’s a really unfortunate that Cas is either ignorantly innocent or crazy kinky. (Random alliteration strikes!) I like smut enough that I’m willing to put up with some OOC smut, but we’ve gotta balance it out with a lot more in character smut.

Points from above I want to make clear:

• Cas knows how sex works
• (The same way you know by reading a book on puberty/sex ed)
• Cas is an Angel - don’t give him a human sex drive
• Jimmy’s body probably still gets sexually aroused (Cas just supresses it)

Also not from the above but something I thought of; remember Dean laughing at the possibility of Uriel not having any ‘junk’? It’s pretty safe to assume Angels don’t have sex. Actually I don’t think they reproduce at all - God just makes them and then they live forever (or until they take a blade to the heart).

However I will give leeway for Castiel not understanding positions other than missionary. Lust is a Demon’s trait - Love is (rather specifically, thank you Cupids) an Angel’s trait. In Christianity sex is well agreed to be an expression of love. So yeah.

It’s great that you’re pointing this out. However, I think people tend to forget that Cas is as much an angel as Balthazar and Gabriel are. And these two were blatantly into sex (especially Balthazar). Generallly I think Cas differs slightly from all the other angels, as he’s much more, I don’t know, unaware of certain customs and expressions. Uriel, Balthazar, Michael, Lucifer, Gabriel, Zachariah. They were very straightforward, sometimes even more human than the humans on the show. So I don’t really agree that Castiel as an angel is absolutely asexual. Thinking about it, Balthazar and Gabriel occupied their vessels much earlier than Cas did. I guess the longer you stay in your vessel, the more it starts to influence the sex drive. We know Cas was curious how it’s like to kiss somebody. He got aroused without supressing it while watching porn, which means his angelic being is already at the point where it’s no longer trying to supress these feelings. Simply because he’s curious and because he’s becoming one with his vessel’s bodily desires.

(Wow, my little rant is getting a lot of love.)

I actually did think about Balthazar and Gabriel but thought I was already going on for too long. I think you’re right that the longer an angel stays within a vessel the more they sort of start to fuse with it. I’d also like to point out, however, that even if Balthazar hadn’t been in his vessel longer (which he may not of) he [i]wanted[/i] to indulge in physical pleasures. There was a conscious decision that he made to experience everything his vessel would allow him before Raphael started the apocalypse again.

In a sense, Balthazar’s relationship with his vessel was very different than Castiel’s. For him it wasn’t just a means to an end, but a way to experience things he couldn’t on his own.

Oh, and on the topic of the Jimmy being raped thing: this is just my personal opinion and doesn’t have any proof behind it, but remember how Jimmy was dying when he gave his body back to Cas? I like to think that his soul was able to pass on in those last few seconds and that he isn’t in the body anymore. I admit that this is probably just wishful thinking on my part, but it helps me to keep a clear conscience while reading all this smut. XD

Yes, your “rant” is interesting. people are now debating whether we should label Cas or even use human terminology to do that. It’s very hard to define him, because I feel that the angel portrayal in Supernatural is inconsistent at times. And you’re right. His body wasn’t a means to an end, but it’s not like he appreciated the hairless apes. which is why he only sought out the physical sensations and decadence of a human lifestyle, but wasn’t really human. He didn’t feel human and never wanted to be part of humanity.

I remember the scene in 4X20 where Cas entered his vessel for the first time. Misha sort of made this hand gesture, as if Cas were curious to experience the limited sensations of an incorporal being trapped in a human body. It was like he was fascinated that he suddenly had limbs that he could move and muscles he could flex. Somehow I got the impression that Cas appreciated all that humanity has to offer. The movement, the smell, the sight. Not just sexual pleasure. He really became human in mind and consciously accepted every part of it. But that also includes sex and physical pleasure which is just one more miracle of the human body. I feel like Cas wants it all. He wants to understand everything and he’s naturally curious. Of course, in the end he doesn’t really want to end up as a human, not permanently, because he still thinks that the human body has limitations that might cause problems to protect the people he cares about. As we’ve seen in 5X04. He’s proud to be an angel, but doesn’t look down upon humans. He called them works of art, I think. His newfound sex drive is just another part of what his vessel offers. Another part that might help him understand what humans are - not works of art, but breathing, living, passionate beings relying on touch, smell and sight. Something that a big ball of light with wings cannot really understand, not in the physical sense.

I also agree with you and I think Jimmy passed on and the body is now Castiels.

Are we talking like using non-gendered pronouns? ‘Cause those are a bitch to get around. I have a friend who identifies as neither gender, and it’s really hard trying to talk about them in the first person. The English language in its current form just makes it really hard.
