Single bachelor Dean bets he can have sex more times within a calendar year than his happily-married brother. But when Castiel – Dean’s roommate, best friend, and total virgin – asks Dean to be his First, Dean’s plan to bed numerous strangers goes up in smoke. Over the weeks, then the months, Cas becomes his go-to guy. His “fuck buddy”, if you will. But that doesn’t sound right. It doesn’t feel right. Dean was Cas’ First, but now he wants to be Cas’ Only. Now he’s gotta figure out how the heck to court a guy he’s already successfully wooed a hundred times already.
Dean and Cas get married in the bunker, for important spellwork reasons.

“I just don’t understand,” Castiel said, a little too harshly.
“Whup,” Dean said, toothbrush hanging from his mouth, foam around his lips. “Wha’s to umberspanb?”
Castiel narrowed his eyes and folded his arms, still leaning on the frame of Dean’s bedroom door. “Why you would rush into the portal without telling me. You didn’t even text me. I trust your phone still works.”
Dean glanced down, eyes on the mirrored cabinet over his bedroom’s corner sink. He bent at the waist, and spat out toothpaste. “It was a spur-of-the-moment thing,” he said, turning on the faucet, rinsing out his mouth, then splashing water onto his face with a hand. “All I was thinkin’ about was saving Mom and Jack.” He straightened up, exhaling a minty puff of air in Castiel’s direction. “Sorry, bud.”
Castiel didn’t seem even remotely soothed. “And the tentacles!”
Dean grinned. “What about the tentacles?” He reached into the cabinet for his razor.
“You didn’t call me for help then, either.”
“No big deal, Cas, I came out of that just fine.”
“Your body was almost appropriated as a vessel for an interdimensional tentacle monster!” Castiel growled, unfolding his arms and staring at Dean in concern.
Dean still grinned, flipping his razor in his hand. “Not like I’d look any worse for it,” he teased, reaching to bat at Castiel’s chest with the back of his hand. “You’d still have a pretty face to stare at, huh?”
Castiel seethed, in a mild sort of way. “You know that’s not why I—” his eyes darted away, “appreciate you.”
Dean felt a funny flip in his chest, following Castiel’s slight pause. Now Dean’s smile turned wonky and he chuckled a little, eyes cast down. “You know you love me.”
A soft snort escaped Castiel’s nose. “Just tell me next time you decide to run head-first into a monster’s mouth, please. I worry about you, Dean. Exactly as much as you worry about me. And you know as well as I do: you couldn’t bear it if I ended up getting… dead.”
Dean wore an aching smile now, knowing it was true. He thumbed at the handle of his razor, forgetting for the moment that he intended to use it.
Gently – slowly – his attention drifted back to Castiel. He looked into his angel’s eyes, holding them for a while, just taking a moment to enjoy his presence, and his care, knowing it was the result of deep, unconditional affection.
Even after all this time, Dean had no freaking idea what to do with all that love.
Dean drew a breath, wanting to say something – anything, didn’t matter what – when his train of thought was interrupted.
“I’VE GOT SOMETHING!” Sam yelled, his shout echoing down the bunker’s hallway. “Dean! Cas! Library! Now!”
Ngl, this is my honest reaction EVERY time I see a notif from her. If you haven’t read anything by Elmie yet, please do yourself a favour and go see. I can happily give recommendations on where to begin 😍
I can’t speak for everyone on Tumblr, but for myself, my love of this character goes far beyond shipping. That anyone would see him in such limited views as boring on whiny is always surprising because to me, he is one of the most complex, deep and interesting characters that I’ve ever seen written.
This is a character with actually a million years of history that we have just barely glimpsed. There is literally endless story lines there. He watched the first creatures crawl out of the oceans. He observed early humans as they reached for the sky in Babylon. He walked with Saint Luke. And led an army of angels in a siege of hell to save Dean Winchester. His history alone is a million potential stories and I want them all.
And not only is he an angel with an incomprehensible amount of story behind him, but he was created special… different from the very beginning. His moral compass is so strong that no matter how many times he has been reprogrammed, it keeps finding it’s way back to north. He was the one angel who refused to kill babies in Egypt and questioned the will of a god who would kill the innocent to prove a point. He was the first and one of the only angels we have ever seen to value human life to the point that he was willing to rebel repeatedly against orders that were programmed into him for humans. And who knows how many times he has done this.
Naomi hinted that he has fought against his programming many times. Man, I would love to know more about this. Did he mourn when the world was destroyed by the great flood? Did he refuse to participate in the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah? Did he argue against Abraham being ordered to kill Isaac? Did he have to be reprogrammed after arguing that God shouldn’t have killed 24,000 Israelites because they hooked up with Moabites or after angels killed 185,000 soldiers while they slept to show off God’s power ? I want more of Castiel’s back story and I can’t see how anyone could consider this the least bit boring.
And to call him indifferent to humanity is just 100% wrong. He has fought over and over again for humanity. He questioned orders for humanity. He was willing to give up his connection to heaven and all of his powers for humanity. He heals random babies in the park. He refused to let Uriel or Lucifer hurt Sam Winchester, although he was ordered and programmed to believe he was an abomination. He was even the first angel we saw who could sit in a park and contemplate his place in the universe because he sees each and every human as a beautiful and unique work of art. Castiel is absolutely not indifferent to humanity. It is canon that he is, “in love… with humanity.”
What this person calls throwing pity parties, I call character development. This is an angel of the Lord who went from being practically a robot to one of the most caring, compassionate individuals on the show. When he first took Jimmy’s vessel he coldly told Claire he was not her father and walked away. Though years of learning and opening his heart to change, we saw him this season try to make amends with Claire. It did take him five years, but when you think about those five little years against his eons of existence and programming that should have prevented him from caring at all, Castiel is pretty much a miracle! He now cares deeply for her and wants to protect her and try to heal her pain as much as he can. He even awkwardly gives her a grumpy cat gift that he picked out for her and it’s such a lovely and touching moment. This is amazing character growth and what I find so interesting about this character.
Castiel is an angel with great powers. And with those great powers comes capacity to do big things. And when those big things backfire, the consequences can be immense. Castiel has screwed up… whoo boy has he screwed up. And to me that is just more of his appeal. Rather than being a perfect hammer, he is a beautifully flawed character and “too much heart was always his problem.” With the best intentions (always to save the Winchesters and humanity) his plans have sometimes gone awry and caused immense damage. And the best thing about this is that it has given him these amazing redemption arcs.
He screwed up by letting Sam out of the panic room, and tried to redeem himself by rebelling and giving his very life for the Winchesters.
He worked with Crowley to give Dean a chance at freedom and to save humanity, a decision that turned out to be a poor one when he couldn’t control the power and the Leviathan. Again, though he tried to atone for his mistake by putting the souls back knowing it would cost him his life.
He made a huge mistake when he broke Sam’s wall. But once again, he was willing to try to correct his mistake by taking on Sam’s torture to his own mind, knowing that it would probably mean an eternity of mental anguish.
He worked with Metatron to try to atone for his errors against heaven, sadly though he was manipulated which resulted in the angels falling. And once again, Castiel went on a mission to fix his mistakes and return the angels to heaven.
He even isolates himself in Purgatory to protect Dean and is willing to spend eternity in the land of monsters as penance for his mistakes.
These are not the actions of someone who is selfish and whiny.
Again and again and again, Castiel has expressed deep pain and remorse for his mistakes. This isn’t whining, this is character growth. He has taken responsibility and been willing to do anything including giving up his own life to fix those mistakes. This isn’t selfish or pity partying. This is selflessly owning up to his errors and being strong enough to do something about it.
Even the witch Rowena can’t believe what a fascinating creature he is. He is something no one has ever seen before - not quite angel and not quite human - but something totally special and unique. It seems to me that to consider Castiel the least bit boring it to limit ones imagination.
please be gentle with yourself. you’re trying. if it’s taking you longer than you thought to achieve something or get somewhere that’s okay. try not to compare yourself to others too much because not everyone gets to where they need to be right away. you’re alive that’s what matters. keep trying. you’ll get there.
If you want to get your characters a certain distance but you don’t know what that would be, use the Radius Around Point tool. Pick a place on the map and choose how many miles away you want your character to drive. It will draw a radius out to that point and you can look along the edge of the circle for towns in which they might end up.
Use Google Maps to plan the actual from-to route and see if the distance varies greatly by route (because the radius tool helps as the crow flies, not necessarily according to accessible roads).
The average speed on American highways is 65-70 mph. So, if you know your character will be driving for four hours, on main highways, without stopping, they’re gonna go about 260 to 280 miles.
Click the starting point and see how far away your character could get before they have to, say, stop for gas or stop to eat or something, in four hours, 260 miles away.
fueleconomy.gov has tools for tracking MPG and tank size of lots of modern automobiles and you can also always just Google tank size on certain car models to find out how much gas a car would hold and, therefore, how far the driver could reasonably go without stopping.
The tank on a ‘67 Chevy Impala holds 24 gallons, by the way. (Actual MPG is around 13 – in other words, NOT GOOD.)
And, once again, Dean Winchester’s car is an AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. Not manual. This means, yes, he shifts the car into and out of park, reverse, drive, and neutral, but he will not shift between gears while driving.
The ioschronous map generator is useful too. You tell it your starting location and the amount of time you have to drive, and it generates a blob that covers the entire area you can reach in that time. friendly reminder that this is a sympton of Anxiety
If you have anxiety/issues communicating under stress and have to do this (i.e. no one to do the ordering for you.) Here is something you can do which helps alleviate the stress on remembering your order/ dealing with ‘scripts.’
1) take a notepad and pen with you (you can get little pocket sized sets for handbags etc.)
2) write down what you want *before* you join the queue.
3) Get to the front: if you can order verbally using the list as a prompt, fine. If not: hand them the paper.
P.S. Have a second choice written down (in case they’re out of what you want.)
E.g. 1x Double Cheeseburger OR 9x nuggets. 1x small fries. 1x medium coke OR medium sprite.
They won’t ask why if your voice gives up on you (they don’t know you don’t have laryngitis or some shit.) They won’t wonder about the list (they don’t know you’re not there ordering for someone else.)
This also works for sit-down meals.
