It’s not until Dean is in his forties that he properly has his ‘bisexual panic,’ as Sam so helpfully calls it.
Sure, he’s checked out dudes in the past—fantasized about TV characters, maybe flirted with a few real people here and there—but actually having to face his feelings is different. Surely he’s too old now, has left it too long.
Eventually, he talks to Cas about it on a clear night, both leaning against the hood of the Impala and looking up at the stars. He tells him about everything.
Sam “Why is Cas texting me from Denver asking for a ride? Wasn’t he just here?”
Dean “He wouldn’t sell me Park Place so I banished him”
Since making this post I keep imagining Dean using the angel banishment anytime he’s ticked off at Cas
They’re in the middle of a huge fight and suddenly Cas is catapulted to Miami
I feel like this would inevitably backfire on Dean tho
Like he sends Cas away during the argument but Cas like refuses to come back. Just keeps sending pics of him hanging out on the beach drinking a margarita or something
Dean’s phone: *new message from Cas*
Cas:
“Thanks for the vacation, bitch”
Dean’s phone: *new message from Cas*
“Really, Dean? REALLY?”
Dean’s phone: *new message from Cas*
Cas: you sent me in France , look who’s not dead
The next time they play Cas makes sure to grip Sam’s arm as he gets banished.
listen, I am a person of simple needs: all I want is for someone to hug cas tightly and tell him that he is loved and appreciated. is that too much to ask for????
us through the years: castiel is god’s favorite angel. that’s why chuck keeps bringing him back to life. he’s the only angel that gets his mission to humanity.
us now knowing who chuck really is: castiel was indeed one of chuck’s favorite characters alongside with sam and dean. and that’s why chuck kept bringing him back to life. but not out of love and respect but because he liked to watch castiel suffer and found entertainment in his struggle.
chuck/god first appearance was on a episode entitled “the monster at the end of the book” and now, he is, the ultimate big bad of the final season. TALK ABOUT FULL CIRCLE
I feel like last nights episode was a completely fanfic-couldnt-have-set-it-up-better layup for DeanCas.
**spoilers**
Yes, they argued, and Dean is angry. But Dean’s whole “dead to me” threat doesn’t have a leg to stand on. Cas is still in the bunker at the end. He’s at the funeral. It’s rough, Dean’s obviously still angry, but I feel like it’s at the situation, and not just at Cas (or Sam, or himself). They were all a part of this situation playing out and he knows that.
Sam holding Cas back at the funeral was a perfect parallel. Dean needs some space to process this (ie Sam needing space after Jack & Dean holding Cas back). Sam knows Dean needs time to work this out, & that if there’s any hope of reconciliation Cas needs to give it to him.
Cas wants to apologize, wants to make things right because he feels guilty. Dean knows it’s not Cas’ fault and he has no reason to apologize. But if they try to talk about it right then Dean’s only going to lash out because he’s still SO angry.
Giving this conversation time, holding them back from each other right now leads the way for a conversation that will /actually/ get stuff done. Will actually contain content and acceptance and proper communication between Dean and Cas— AND WHAT MIGHT HAPPEN THEN?!?!
Anyway as heartbreaking as this episode was it was literally a fanfic trope waiting to happen. The knock down drag out talk Dean and Cas are due for can literally be the “angry accidental confession of feelings” moment and I am SO READY FOR THIS
