The scene between Sam and Cas was exactly like 10x22 but there was no trace of the tension between Dean and Cas, no romantic undertones, it was almost a different scene while being framed the same way down to the fake stabbing
with Dean Cas looked absolutely gutted, with Sam it was just another day at the office and he was glad they got past that unpleasantness
Exactly. The romantic subtext, backstory, romance tropes culminating to it – ALL notably absent, while the platonic/familial framing and cadence of the Sam/Cas mirror scene was so obvious
