my best friend is an atheist, but whenever she is comforting me with something in my life she uses examples of God to help me because she knows it makes me feel better, and vice versa, when i comfort her i never bring up God because i respect that it’s not something that helps or works for her

i feel like this is a model of how the world should work

that is perfect

The other day I had the privilege of asking a practicing Buddhist (one who has been practicing for 30 years) for his thoughts on any subject. The others who were there all had interesting questions of their own (How do Buddhists view abortion? How much negative karma is generated from assisted suicide? What would a Buddhist do if they were forced to kill in self-defense?), and the answers provided were each logical in terms of what a Buddhist believes.

I asked: “Would Buddhists see a gender reassignment surgery as positive, or negative?” I needed to elaborate quite a bit until he understood that I was talking about FtM’s and MtF’s. As soon as he understood, he gave this answer without hesitation:

Buddhists would see this is as positive karma. It is likely that the individual had lived as the other gender in their previous life, and were so strongly attached to that body that their mind is completely disoriented in the wrong gender. By taking the hormones and performing the surgery, the mind would be at ease as it is back in familiar ground. From there, that individual would undoubtedly generate much more positive karma, as they would no longer feel horribly out of place in their own body. Without question, medical procedures that can cure dysphoria, depression, jealousy, and anxiety should be done.

this makes me simply very happy.

Sikh Jatinderpal Singh Bhullar has become the first soldier to guard the Queen wearing a turban instead of a bearskin hat.

The 25-year-old, who joined the Scots Guards this year, has been given permission to wear the religious headdress outside Buckingham Palace.

He was seen standing guard and parading outside the palace for the first time this morning.

The Sun told earlier this month how the former bricklayer, from Birmingham, broke 180 years of tradition.

At the time, he said: “Conducting public duties in my turban is a great honour.

“I am very proud to be a member of the Household Division, and to be the first Sikh guardsman to mount guard in a turban will be the best thing in my life, especially as a member of the Scots Guards.”

But he has reportedly been mocked by comrades, though no complaint has been made. It came as some in the Scots Guard have claimed the whole company will look “ridiculous” if one member does not wear a bearskin.

David Cuthill, one retired officer, told a newspaper: “It should be the regiment first and religion second. A Guardsman is not a Guardsman if he’s not wearing a bearskin.

“Hundreds of years of tradition should be protected. I appreciate his predicament but if all the other Guardsmen are in bearskins and he is in a turban, it is going to look ridiculous.”

But CO Lt Col Robert Howieson praised Bhullar, saying: “He will be a welcome addition. The precedent for Sikh soldiers wearing turbans on parade was set long ago.”

Guardsman Bhullar’s dad Surinder, 47, from Slough, Berks, said recently: “He deserves respect and he will stay strong. That includes wearing his turban instead of a bearskin, no matter what other soldiers say. He is observing his religion.”

Its HILARIOUS  to hear white people screeching about their traditions, when they have no goddamned respect for anyone elses. Guardsman Bhuller looks fantastic and may the soldiers disrespecting him choke.

He really does, and I love it. and the beard. check that beard. that beard is a glory. he looks completely badass and dashing.

Good for him! He’s awesome and brave.

This picture was supposed to be an entry for this contest. To sum it up, it’s about inter-faith tolerance and acceptance. The theme was to draw two or more people with different faiths ”in a peaceful and friendly mood”. Knowing the importance of accepting others regardless of what they believe in, I decided to give this theme a try. I had the idea for this picture stuck in my head: two girls, one Muslim and one Christian, in love.

I wanted to erase the stereotype about ”all religious people hating gays” and similar prejudices.

But then I saw rule g; ”no nudity, sex, gore, yaoi, yuri, inappropriate things”. Now, I was not intending to draw any inappropriate stuff or nudity, but the terms ”yaoi” and ”yuri” confused me, as they are term for japanese gay porn, NOT gay relationships in general. So I asked if I could draw two girls in love.

I wish I had screencaps for this discussion, because it was rather disillusioning and offensive. The creator of this contest of TOLERANCE basically said zoophilia and homosexuality were the same.

”based on your logic, someone can also say he loves his pet animal and by this, zoophilia will be also considered love.”

He also excluded gay Muslims from their faith, and spoke as if they do not exist. I for sure KNOW that there indeed ARE gay Muslims, and I ALSO know that being a homophobe isn’t a criteria for being a Muslim.

Why on earth would someone hold a contest about accepting and tolerating others regardless of what they happen to believe in, when they do not tolerate other’s way of life? I know that many gay people are rather hostile towards Islam because they think that all Muslims hate gay people. This is a stereotype. Why reinforce it when you are trying to fight this kind of prejudice? It’s awfully ironic.

He suddenly blocked me during the discussion, abruptly ending the conversation while still getting the last word.

Now: I encourage you all to draw a shitload of gay Muslims, Christians, Buddhists, Hinduists, Jews - heck, people of every different religion ever. Religion does not equal narrow mindness. Please spread this message and be a better example than this guy I had the discussion with.

hey look look

isn’t this beautiful ;__;
