destiel-is-my-canon:

According to a script supervisor* on Supernatural, it was never the intention of Supernatural to make Dean and Castiel’s relationship romantic. More than that, Dean Winchester and Castiel are not characters to be interpreted as queer.

After half a decade of witnessing the relationship between Dean and Castiel develop, and after one of the most rewarding seasons last year, it seems the writers have put the breaks on this relationship.

Networks care about ratings and people may come in later on to try to obscure these facts to get fans to tune in. But if the main draw on the show for you has been the potential romance between Dean and Castiel, then the reason to tune in is now gone. Will you continue to watch this show? That’s up to every individual fan.

One truth NOT being acknowledged: Fans did not make up Destiel, and referring to the potential romance between two characters as “slash fiction” simply because they are same-sex characters is offensive. The series has injected plenty of subtext, humor and literary elements into crafting a story that resembled the beginnings of a love narrative. Stating that the network isn’t even aware of this relationship is hard to believe, especially after shippers have won every single poll and tournament this year [x] and be have been the central focus of several articles these past two months [x].

It seems that not only are they shutting the door on this relationship but giving shippers the cold shoulder.

Part of the conversation above concluded with this sentiment:

“I’ll put it this way: don’t know if we’ll ever go there, but don’t know for sure that we never will…..And if it served the story, I would support it.” [x]

Do you believe Dean and Castiel’s romance serves the story?

If you have something to say, tweet it to the series. Even if you’re leaving the show for good, let them know what this relationship has meant to you, why you supported it, and why it was more than just “slash fiction” to you.
