There are several fanfics out there that deal with a smitten Bashir trying to research stuff about both Cardassian courting and sexual practices, and running into that famous Cardassian obfuscation/secrecy. Like, there’s probably is Cardassian porn out there, it’s just…really hard for him to get a hold of, y’know? And I love those stories, they are hilarious. But has anyone considered Garak trying to research human sexuality and running into an…opposite problem?

Like, instead of there being an absence of information, there’s just…so damn much that it becomes impossible to sort it out and make any kind of sense of it. After all, surely ALL of these can’t be common human sexual practices. Right? Right???

  • Post show commentary! #Supernatural At the beginning of the season, Jared and Jensen spoke with the writers about the final season. Most of the convo was about the ending, but when loose ends came up Jensen made a point of wanting part 2 of the Dark Kaia spear saga.
  • I felt it was important because Dark Kaia’s promise to Dean in 14.09 was so loaded, and we never resolved it. (The plan was to do it in S14 but it didn’t happen.) That Jensen agreed it mattered gave me some steam to push for it. #supernatural
  • But this season is very heavily serialized and finding an actual place for it became really difficult. The opening really came when me and @Merecuda realized we needed a consequential Chuck episode to bridge the season around ep 12. #Supernatural
  • At various points, the idea for the ep was far wackier, with a more hands on Chuck. But the core idea was that Chuck would be ending worlds, and we could use Dark Kaia to tell that story in a reasonably contained way. #SupernaturaI
  • Which allowed us to tie off another loose end— real Kaia. The arc of S1 of Wayward Sisters was always going to be broadly Dark Kaia vs the WS, culminating in Kaia’s rescue and DK’s tragic defeat. I always wanted to make that death right. #SupernaturaI
  • But with limited real estate on #Supernatural I had resigned myself to Kaia just being dead. It was only by embedding it in S15 stories (Chuck, Jack’s return to the Bunker, Billie’s plan) it felt like it was possible to tie that loose end in a relevant and appropriate way.
  • The episode is about Sam, Dean, Cass and Jack reintegrating as a family unit in time to face the fight ahead. And by saving Kaia, despite the risks and odds, affirming their shared values. The candy in the middle, for me and those who care about WS, was saving Kaia. #SupernaturaI
  • Anyhow it’s an unusual ep in many ways— a lot happens, but there is also a lot of tablesetting for things to come. And we were so lucky to have the cast firing on all cylinders, and Rich directing the shit out of it. It has a lot of integrity in its execution. #SupernaturaI

Hi there.

So I’m answering some questions for TV Guide’s Instagram, which to me sounds like a really big deal. When I’ve read them. I have.. I have a computer down here, so bear with me. I’m starting back and forth. It’s not just social awkwardness, which is, by the way, a strong suit. First question is, what was the first fandom that I was part of growing up?

First fandom that I was part of.. probably was stickers. I was a huge fan of stickers. I had a collection of sticker books, including Scratch and sniff stickers, which is something that children who have grown up with technology aren’t aware of because they’re much more interesting things now. But scratch and sniff stickers were a big deal for me. What was the first fanboy moment that I can recall? I saw Donovan in concert when I was very young. I was very excited about that.

You don’t know who Donovan is.

Another early fan boy experience was tracking down Bob Garfield, who was an NPR radio personality. I only tell you that to let you know how cool I am on the inside. What was my first,’ Oh, my God!’ experience while reading a supernatural script? I think my first,‘Oh, my God’ experience while reading a supernatural script was when my character was the last episode of season five and my character exploded.

He was killed by the snap of fingers of Lucifer. That was really traumatizing for me, not only because I had grown attached to the character of Castiel, but also because I thought I’d lost my job. And then three pages later, I learned that God resurrected me, which was my second oh my God experience. Who was my first O T P pairing? Probably like Achilles and Petrakis. They were early.

This reminds me of a party I went to last year. I was standing with some friends, chatting, and someone said something that indirectly implied that sexism exists. Some trivial recounting of the basic facts of daily life for most women. Something so mild, so uncontroversial, so mundane that I don’t even remember what it was.

Suddenly, this man standing on the outskirts of our conversational circle piped up with “actually, I think men are more discriminated against than women these days.”

 All conversation died.

I turned to look at him and he had this smug, insufferable grin on his face, relishing this moment, expecting us to waste our time and energy refuting this ridiculous thing he had just said.

The Devil’s Advocate was among us.

And, in my mind, I saw the next 15+ minutes playing out. The parade of facts and statistics in a vain attempt to defend ourselves, our gender, and to prove that misogyny is real. The glib, snide denials from some shithead who is getting off on our pain and frustration. The Gish Gallop of bullshit that would take a whole evening to properly dismantle. It was depressing and overwhelming. I hated it. I had to kill it before it began.

So I looked him dead in the eye and I said “OK,“ shrugged, and just walked away.

Nothing I have ever said to another human being has ever been so crushing. As I walked away, I watched the smug grin vanish and confusion and anxiety set in. The rest of the group turned their backs to him and carried on as if he had never spoken - as if he was invisible. He was still staring at me when I walked over to another friend and told her what he had said. I pointed him out for her and made direct eye contact with him while we both laughed.

tl;dr: Don’t feed the troll. Let it perish, cold and hungry, in the wasteland of your indifference. It is weak and you are strong. Live your best life.

I was doing some digging and I just found this amazing album of prop photos from Good Omens! From what I can gather the site is a community of prop and costume makers, but I didn’t see much context for where they came from than that. I’m so surprised I haven’t seen these on Tumblr yet. They’re high quality and would make really good references for anyone who needs them. I included a selection here but I’d highly recommend checking out the album for more!

Thank you so much for sharing this!
