Cas wants to confess his love for his best friend Dean, so he writes him an elaborate, three-page long note that ends with, I love you. He stuffs the letter in his backpack and goes to school.
As always, Dean meets him at his locker. Today, his smile is twice as big as usual. Cas starts to smile, too. Dean’s infectious that way.
“Guess what?” Dean asks as he draws near. Before Cas even has time to answer, Dean says, “Today, I’m going to ask out the hottest person in school.”
The smile drops right off of Cas’s face. It joins his heart on the floor.
Cas slams his locker closed. He clutches his backpack with the note inside close to his chest, hugging tight.
“Cas?” Dean steps closer. He places a warm hand on Cas’s shoulder. “You okay? You went all pale.”
Cas’s tongue feels too big for his mouth. Still, he manages, “Do you… like them?”
Dean looks away, but not before Cas can see the way those green eyes soften, fond. “I think I’m in love.”
