Throwing my two cents in the ring, I’m about…94% positive the vision was Lucifer.

When he first said “I could never fool you,” I briefly considered Gabriel, but this sort of scenario rang way more familiar as a parallel to Lucifer’s pretense as Jess, especially because it was happening in a dream.

“Having a message” could almost be heard as one of Gabriel’s lessons, but the clincher for me was when Sam said that maybe the being in the vision was the “opposite of the Darkness.”

Lucifer is called “Light-Bringer.”

That just makes so much more sense to me know, knowing Lucifer’s history with the Mark and the Darkness, him and Michael being mentioned in the season opening, and Sam’s visions in 11x02 (plus im about 40% convinced they threaded in Mark Pellegrino’s voice in Sam’s hallucinations in that episode)
