Dear Jensen, Misha, et al: Goddammit You’ve Got To Be Kind

For those who have been following me, you already know that this Jibcon has made me Extremely Upset. It has also possibly sent me into a state where I do not want to leave my room, ever, and this is why I ultimately decided to write this post.

I’m going to be very Mature writing this post, even though I want to curl into a fetal position and cry. There won’t be any curse words worse, at all, not even the ones that aren’t ~really~ curse words.

I will not call anybody names in this post. Not even “asshole” even though I think they deserve the appellation. However, when I use words that end with something like -ist or -ism — that is not name-calling. That is observation of oppressive behavior.

However, this post is going to be about Jensen and Misha. It won’t be about how much I love them, either. It won’t be about how much I think they are perfect and flawless, because they are not. They are human and they have faults and flaws.

This does not make what I am about to say hate. Which is why I am tagging their names in the tag. Because I am, frankly, a little baffled by how easily fandom dismisses what they say or attempts to apologize or excuse it.

First, I want to congratulate you on the very well worded post. I may not agree with everything you said, but you did raise some very good points and you put into words some discomforts I’ve been having and couldn’t properly express even in my own head.

I will say that I didn’t actually see the joke about Sebastian being about rape, but the fact that your friend was triggered shows that public figures (and anyone for that matter) should be more careful about that sort of thing. I do agree that the whole thing about Meg and Coma!Cas was VERY cringe worth and I could really have lived without.

I’ve been a fan of Jensen since his Dark Angel days, but we’ve had too many inapropriate comments over the years to not actually conclude that he can come off very sexist in the way he expresses himself. I’m not a fan of SG by any means, but the whole “she writers like a girl” rubbed me in all the wrong ways. I actually get what he was trying to say, that he doesn’t think she’s able to write male characters realistically, and I believe if he had worded it differently, I’d be defending his right on having a critic opinion about a writer. Alas, we had the “she writes like a girl” thing and…uhg…like if you’re a woman, there’s no way you can write male character realistically and UHG, thinking peaceful thoughts now!

Now , I’ll talk about my favorite part of your post, where you talk about how in these days, you have homoerotism everywhere (actors like Misha and Seb pratically fucking on stage) but it’s like homosexuality is something that happens in another friggin dimession! I belive the term is “queer denial”? I’m not sure, but it’s something to that effect.

Fuck, as a FELLOW HUMAN BEING, WAT? It’s just so friggin nonsensical how you can have movies like Sherlock Homes, the british series Sherlock, White Collor, frigging Supernatural where the male characters obviously share deep connections to the point that everyone and their grandmother see GAY and the writers and actors turn around and pat you in the head saying you’re a silly fangirl for asking for a natural progression of the connection between these characters and have them have, you know, A RELATIONSHIP, like homosexuality is right there with unicorns and mermaids!!

When the fuck did this happen????? You see this everywhere now, and for fuck sake’s, STOP IT!

I’ll go into the part of your post I strongly disagree with. This has been my least favorite season of SPN. Bar none. Not to say that I haven’t had problems with the last few ones, because God knows after “Abandon all hope” this show just has not been the same. I mean, the clusterfuck that was Swan Song alone…okay, I’m rambling. The fact is, this season has been deplorable. And SG is the headwriter. I’m sorry, but one cannot avoid this fact.

So, yeah, I’m a woman but consider me one of those who has been screaming with joy because Jeremy Carver will be the headwriter next season, given he has written some of my favorite episodes. Also, Castiel is my favorite character, and I truly believe no one does him more justice than Ben Edlund.

I have a right to have a favorite writer be a man and not be called misogynistic. For the life of me, I can’t see the point of liking a writer or a character or a actor JUST because they’re female and that’s it. I want to be a fan of them because they write amazingly, because the character is extremelly well written and I identify with them and because the actress gives inspiring performances.

BTW, see Game of Thrones for all the above.

To be frank, I’m sick and tired of being called misogynistic because as a woman I don’t automatically love ALL the female character, actresses or writers. I find that absurd and backwards and extremelly offensive. I have a right to have critic thinking and be unbiased by my gender!
