I can’t tell the tone of this, whether it’s jokey and positive (“your writing is better than that”) or if you’re saying I shouldn’t have said anything about the overwhelmingly positive responses I’ve gotten about that story (“you should not view your own writing as good”).

I’ll treat it as the latter because you’re anon and that probably means you’re saying something negative and don’t want me to know who you are. All right, that’s fine.

I only said that part of it because the only reason the person asked about Angelhawke was because they saw something nice being said about it. The person’s question was literally in response to someone saying “this fanfic is good”. I could have offered a completely neutral response but I feel that would somehow be paying a disservice to a) the nature of the question, b) my own writing.

Besides, they came to me asking about my writing, and I’m proud of that fic, okay? I want to talk about it positively. I’m not the kind of person who says “this fic sucks don’t read it” unless I actually feel that way. For Angelhawke, I feel it’s pretty good. I don’t see a crime in saying so.

Also, I was actually not talking about my own opinion at all. It was a statement about what other people have said. Over the past three years I have received literally hundreds of messages about that fic and for the life of me I can’t remember a single negative one. Perhaps a constructive criticism or two, but those are positive in the long run. And I remember the negative things clearly, because they make me wonder if I’m doing something wrong.

I’ve responded to another message a bit like this about a year ago, an anon thought I was being too bold in advertising my own work on my own blog, on a non-rebloggable page. But I’ve since decided that actually, I have every right to be positive about my work. I would like to keep that right, please. Perhaps I worded my post too boldly, but you know what, I don’t think that matters. It’s my work and I’ll talk about it however I want to.
