Still not over the bed scene tbh, we discussed it a bit here but there are several other things I’d like to point out about it :P so thank you for giving me an excuse…
Everything about this shot feels lopsided and off-center. The lack of a nightstand on the side opposite Cas, the way the light only (just barely) reaches his side of the bed, even the dark color of the plaid is a stark contrast to the light color of the sheets Cas is surrounded by. The use of light and shadow is beautiful, and the bars on the headboard are reminiscent of that cage imagery we saw so much of in season 9. Cas is alone and he feels trapped.
Even the way Cas is lying in the bed is lopsided, his body curving into the tiny bit of light coming in from the window, away from the darkness, away from the cold, the loneliness of the void beside him. If the addition of a nightstand in Dean’s bedroom indicated that he was in need of a partner, the lack of one in Cas’ to me screams that he has utterly lost hope for one.
The thing that sticks out the most to me is how in 9x14 the opposite side of the bed was illuminated by that light
and how that is now the side of his own bed that Cas chooses, a perfect contrast to the darkness on the other side…
I also think it’s interesting that Cas is in the “get the hell away from me” position, with his right elbow and knee pointed outward. Usually the elbow and knee are pointed (in both senses of the word) in the direction of the person lying next to you in the bed.
Given that Serge Ladouceur lit both of these shots, I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the pattern of light and dark on the bed is the same in both of them. It looks to me like if you were to superimpose the images, Dean would pretty much fit exactly into that dark swath of bed, with his face just about where the light part of the sheet falls.
I get what you’re saying about needing queer representation, but 9x03 was not the place for it. It would have been better to show Cas as asexual or demisexual, not having sex with someone he just met, because that way the show would have circumnavigated a perfectly pointless rape scene.
In case you don’t know: in 9x03 the Cas/April interaction was lacking consent from both the reaper’s vessel, and from Cas, because he didn’t know he was banging a reaper. It was rape for both parties.
I’m glad 9x03 didn’t have a male reaper. If the vessel had been a man, you know what message that would’ve sent to those who realised it was rape? It would have said gay sex is rape. It would not have gone down well, even worse than the Cas/April already did. There’s enough crimes against women in this show, but to add gay/non-straight men to that is just… god I don’t have words. I’m glad. That episode should never have existed and thank god it wasn’t worse.
bookkbaby adds: also the fact that he was forced to trade sex for food and shelter, it wasn’t just that it was a reaper and he didn’t know. she could have been human and it /still would have been rape for Cas/
Queer Sam Week: Day 6; AU
↳ Sastiel bookstore AU
Panromantic & asexual!Sam has a huge crush on the owner of his favorite bookstore, Castiel. However, besides his shy nature, he’s also afraid of asking his crush out on date because his last dates didn’t go well after he’d be honest about his sexuality. It takes a long time, but by the time he managed to stutter out the asking, Castiel was already smitten with the tall, blushing, handsome regular custumer with those irresistible dimples.
Hey anon, I found that porny Cas/Misha thing! (the less crappy one, that is)
I call it “Your Fingers Aren’t Mine Yet”, aka “961 words of spontaneous bullshit written in May 2013”. It reads more like poetry than a fic, and it’s completely unedited.
bottom!Misha??
(warning: this reply may be triggering to some, please skip it if you would rather not see anything about 9x03)
episode 9x03 of supernatural is often regarded by viewers in fandom as absolute drivel, featuring asexual erasure, major consent issues and bad writing all round
the main problem being that Cas and April have sex and (I’m sneering in disgust as I type this) April was possessed so did not consent to sex, and Cas did not know he was having sex with a reaper and therefore did not consent to sex. they were both raped by the reaper.
selfihateyouithink replied to your post: I’d really, really appreciate this being rephrased as “‘April’ rapes Cas” or “The Reaper rapes them both” because that wasn’t sex, no matter how much the writers and fandom like to normalize the rape. Rape and sex aren’t synonymous.
also why the fuck would Cas have sex with some random woman. why?? because human = sexual??? no, that is not a good reason and the writers are wrong.
obviously that’s triggering to some people, so that’s why I try and tag whenever I see anything from that episode, including manips where Cas is made to be kissing someone other than April, or anything with Cas wearing his hoodie, or that tattoo he gets in the episode.
It’s by my favorite fiction writer, shotgunsinlace. I’ve read two more of their works and the writing is gorgeous. Emotions just ooze from the screen/page. Castiel Novak reliving his life with his wife Emily and his son Jeremy, how HAPPY they must have been!
And Dean—the perfectly written, seemingly asshole Dean who is a shady mechanic in town and welcomes the standoffish writer with flirting and pie. But when he says Cas’s wife left him and he has to let go—oh he’s got it so so wrong and I ache for Cas even as I want to hit him AND Dean…their characterizations are so perfectly in sync with the first time they meet in Supernatural Season 4. Though this is an alternate universe, the creature of murder…the black sucking presence that seemed to follow Castiel all the way across the country to this new place…I hope the reason Dean Winchester seems so shady is that he’s a supernatural hunter on the side, who can hopefully get rid of this monster so Cas can sleep at night.
{I’m freaking out and I’m only on Chapter Three!!!}
Sometimes it feels like on a subconscious level, when they don’t even know they’re doing it, Dean and Cas have a type.
this is beautiful

…Aaaaand now I’m panicking.
haha so there’s that
is it just me or did this sound more like: Wait maybe Cas will fall for hannah. (though I doubt it) In anyway I know I ask for the impossible. If that happens, can we not jump at the character of Hannah, and especially be respectful and kind to the actress? I am just sick of hatred in this fandom. Maybe its because I really have become zen about Destiel in the recent months but I am so over the whole drama around the ship created by fandom.
Especially… who the hell picked anything remotely romantic off from Hannah and cas? Like who? Even more so when we compare it to the phonecall. And how diabetically deathly sweet they smiled when hearing from each other. I smile like that too. But only when my heart jumps for the guy on the other end of the line. So there is that.
I actually got spidey sense tingle off of them, yeah. Just in the last scene with the way she looked at him. Hetero pairings have happened from less.
But, we also though Rachel was going to be a love interest. And Nora.
Her look could have meant a lot of things, and so could her tweet. Maybe she’s a plant. Maybe she’ll try to seduce Cas and fail. This could, in around about way, be a setup to another “Dean and Castiel’s love conquers all,” just as much as it could be, “Oh no love interest!”
So I will wait and see.
