”HAVE U EVER HAD A WEIRD EX THAT U SUPER HATE AND THEN HE GETS WITH UR CRUSH AND LITERAL SATAN AND THEY PRACTICALLY EIFFEL TOWER HIM WHEN U’VE BEEN SPENDING ACTUAL YEARS BUILDING A DEEP AND UNBREAKABLE EMOTIONAL AND ALSO LITERAL SPIRITUAL BOND WITH, WHILE U WATCH EVEN THO TECHNICALLY UR EX IS TRYING TO HELP IT’S GONNA GET TURNED INTO A JOKE??? UUUGHH GOOODDDD” –dean winchester, asking for a friend
“I can’t believe he’s doing this,” Dean says for the fifth time as he flips through the channels. Sometimes he stops but the show never holds his attention for long before he’s flipping again.
Sam, sitting in the armchair, casually flips a page of his book. “If you don’t want him to go, ask him not to.”
“Oh, yeah, sure,” Dean laughs, half-hysterical. “Hey, Cas, I know you are super excited about your date but if you could please, uh, not, that would be great.” He huffs. “I don’t think so, Sammy.”
“Dean.”
“Don’t start,” Dean warns, pointing the remote at Sam in the most intimidating way he can manage - which isn’t very. When he relaxes back into the couch, he starts flipping channels again. “He’s allowed to do things.”
“So are you,” Sam says.
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
“It means,” Sam says with patience. “That you should go talk to him.”
“Yeah, right,” Dean says because no way.
“Before it’s too late,” Sam says. At Dean’s head shake, he adds, “Before you lose him.”
The unlimited potential in a story line that involves Dean moving heaven and earth to save CAS for once???
DO YOU KNOW HOW EXCITED I AM?!
Season 8, dude.
Season 8 tho - I still feel like we got ripped off on that one. They could have done like a full ep of Dean tearing up purgatory looking for Cas. Instead we got little snippets.
So I was rewatching this episode and I saw something I didn’t notice before… Look at Dean’s face during this scene. It is a myriad of emotion. In that fourth gif it’s only when Cas is actually looking at him that Dean puts on this fake smile (and he’s hardly trying to look happy… it doesn’t reach his eyes at all). But it’s whenever Cas isn’t looking that Dean shows how he really feels. Just look at that last gif. Dean blinks and his smile dissolves. When Cas opens the car door, Dean isn’t even looking at him anymore, because he can’t stand to watch Cas walk away again. Misha was told to play the jilted lover in this episode and I think Jensen is really playing off of that really well. He’s playing the unrequited lover. Because Dean doesn’t understand that someone as pure as Cas could ever love him. So Dean feels like he’s pining for something that’s outside his grasp when all along Cas has never been more than an arm’s length away. And that’s what makes this so sad, because they both don’t want to say goodbye but neither has the courage to say it.
Just a friendly reminder that while Castiel was punishing Meg’s behaviour (he explicitly says that he learned this from the Pizza Man, and his interpretation of the scene between the Pizza Man and the Baby Sitter had been that the former was punishing the wrongful behaviour of the latter).
Dean was doing this:
Dude is projecting himself in on the action with his whole body. He purses his lips. His hand makes a grabbing motion. But although Castiel has his back to Dean, Dean is paralleling Castiel, this isn’t even a little bit about Dean wanting to visit what Castiel is doing on Meg. Not Meg. They have history. Meg had just threatened him with sexualized violence. It’s not even a little bit about Meg, because Dean doesn’t see this as punishment like Castiel does.
