“Pick a colour.”

Castiel frowns at the paper contraption in Charlie’s hands, tilting his head to the side to get a better view of it. The slight narrowing of his eyes must betray his confusion and suspicion, however, because the redhead scoots her chair closer, oblivious to whatever Sam and Dean are currently doing. “It’s a Cootie Catcher,” she explains.

“A… Cootie Catcher?”

“Yeah. Look.” Smoothing out the paper, Charlie points to the colours before lifting each corner and to reveal the numbers underneath. “You pick a colour and I spell it and move the Cootie Catcher, then you pick a number. I count and move the Cootie Catcher, and then you pick another number. I lift the flap and you get your fortune.”

“It’s a device that possesses some sort of psychic ability?” Castiel is sceptical; for all intents and purposes, it appears to be a cleverly folded piece of paper.

“Uh… no,” Charlie replies. “I wrote all the fortunes. It’s just for fun. Like a kids game.”

“A kids game.”

“Yeah. C’mon, just pick a colour.”

Castiel’s eyes flick up to where Dean is munching on a slice of pizza before resuming his consideration of the Cootie Catcher. Hesitantly, he touches the nearest corner of paper. “Green.”
