hello again, nz anon here from a few hours ago, goddamn rural wellington?? me too homie ! it's just super weird because my brain always thinks of fic writers as unknown floating beings with a laptop somewhere in space like i forget sometimes that y'all are real people that may - in this case - live in the same city as me

(following on from this)

i mean, i am definitely an unknown being floating with a laptop in space. seems pretty accurate imo

this makes me so excited!! the slytherin part of my brain always wonders “what if someone in this public area in has read and enjoyed one of my fics?” and then i think “nah that’s so unlikely” but ??? maybe not so unlikely, given there are actual people in the world who read things

it seems i too think of fic readers as unknown beings with laptops floating somewhere in space. (probably doesn’t help that aside from when i went to destielcon in the usa, i have met a grand total one ONE nz-based reader, who i collaborated with by chance on their dcbb.)

basically i really wish i could get to know my readers as people rather than an-icon-who-has-feelings, since i really don’t know a lot about who people ARE outside of what they share in their comments. like how old are people? where in the world do they live? what ethnicities/religions/genders/sexualities/patronuses do they identify with? under what circumstances do they read my fics/how did they find my work/what do they really wish i knew? what are their main fandoms? what time & day of the week would be most convenient for me to upload new fics? also stuff about core values, hopes and dreams, and political views. (i’ve been thinking about doing a survey for a long time (literal years), mostly out of extreme curiosity… perhaps i should? hot damn that would be a lot of work though)
