We have seen many brands of beer on Supernatural over the past two seasons. Last season we mostly saw Sam and Dean drinking from bottles with red labels depicting the image of a Native American. This season we have seen blue and red labeled bottles mostly, while Dean was shown drinking Cain’s preferred brand of beer after he took on the mark.
Only twice have we seen the particular brand of beer seen in the above gifs. First, in 8x23, when the cupid delivered the beer to the men she gifted with love. Second, in 9x06, when the beer delivery man interrupted Dean and Cas’ conversation so that Cas could sign for the delivery. These two scenes are almost direct mirrors of one another, with the same brand of beer, the characters framed in almost the exact same positions, and the bright blue and red colors featured so prominently in both.
We can’t be certain what the intentions were here, but it I can’t watch this scene from Heaven Can’t Wait without immediately being reminded of two men falling in love with a little nudge in the right direction from Heaven.

Angels and popcorn is becoming a theme on Supernatural and there’s a very good reason for that. The King James Bible has 102 references to corn because it was used as a general term for grains. The popcorn symbolism is probably referencing Psalm 78
Though he had commanded the clouds from above, and opened the doors of heaven, and had rained down manna upon them to eat, and had given them of the corn of heaven. Man did eat angels’ food.
Corn is the angels’ food and Carver-era Supernatural seems to be using popcorn to reference that
I’m sure you’re also wondering about Cain and his love of shucking corn
The King James Bible refers to farmed crops as the corn of the land
Cain was a farmer until he committed the first murder and started the Knights of Hell. He didn’t want to be a killer anymore, he wanted to have a simple life like the one he’d lived before, so when the fighting broke out he sat there and calmly tended to his corn.
There’s one more corn reference I know the fandom is curious about, that motel room from Clap Your Hands if you Believe 6.09
This episode didn’t reference anything biblical. It was set in Elwood, Indiana and the corn was used to establish location because anyone who’s been to Indiana knows that corn is all over the place.
Dean’s bedroom, quite possibly the one room in the bunker we have analyzed more than any other at this point. What I want to talk about now is the changes it has gone through since we last got a good look at it.
First, let’s talk about the evolution of the cross that has been present on the back shelf, in various states, since Dean first acquired the room. As thecaptainsoiree noted in her bedroom meta, the cross was standing upright as of 8x16, but was fallen as of 9x04 and 9x14. Now in 9x23…it is standing back up again. And there is another cross now standing with it. Both of them are positioned off center, on either side of Dean’s head. He is being bookended by symbols of Heaven, perhaps indicative that while he may be doing dark side as of right now, there is something (or maybe someone) heavenly, or angelic, that will be present to help bring him out of this.
And the nightstand…oh that second nightstand, how curious it’s sudden presence was in 9x14. But now, it’s gone again. Upon first watch I thought it was merely obscured, but the outlet on the wall is visible, whereas it was blocked when the nightstand was present. So the nightstand is gone, and with it perhaps Dean’s hopes for a companion to share his bed. But the cross is standing once more, and now there are two of them, and they are surrounding him like a halo.

Oh god. He actually called Cas “Sunshine”. I can’t deal with this.
Because we know that the sun and light is often associated with Cas.
And remember the end of Meta Fiction with the romantically coded montage to “The Sun Ain’t Gonna Shine Anymore”?
Bless. Crowley basically called him “guiding light”. Imagine that.coolificationasked me the other day if I had seen this part and mentioned the bit about the tv. In 9x09 Cas was faced with an unplugged tv, foreshadowing the need for him to “plug back in and power on”, now, an episode later, he smokes a tv out, frying it because he didn’t want to deal with hearing about the death of “humanity”. This acts as two fold foreshadowing, both for Dean’s death and Cas’ grace burning him out. Too bad this was cut. Oh well.
carnations are the flower for people born in January
Dean was born January 25, 1979
Crowley playing with that flower was symbolic of how he was manipulating Dean
Mind blown. He has Dean in the palm of his hand.
The palm of his hand…. whoa.
Metatron calls the angel tablet the most powerful instrument in the history of the universe. But is it really? I will never be over the powerful symbolism of it shattering to pieces just as Dean’s dying body falls over in defeat. The pieces lay at Castiel’s feet, as Metatron enters the room, which is exactly where his heart would also end up moments later when Metatron reveals that Dean is dead.
What the angel tablet truly represents is Heaven, in all it’s complexities. All that power, granting the one who possesses it with the power of God. When Cas pulled the tablet from Metatron’s typewriter, and dropped it to the ground to shatter, without a moments hesitation, this was him once and for all making his choice. This was him, as persephoneshadow said in chat earlier, tearing up the pages of the story once again.
Dean’s existence is more essential to Cas than Heaven or angelic duties. His existence more profound than the word of God. They shattered together, but one was always more important than the other. Because to Cas, Dean has been the most important thing to ever happen. His father’s most important creation.
Dean was where it all began. His fall, his rebellion, his ability to embrace and understand free will. It was not the word of God that showed him the way, it was Dean Winchester. One human, one man, for whom he would shatter God’s word again and again for the slightest chance it would save his life.
So what is the most powerful instrument in the history of the universe? It is a word, but not one written down on any tablet. It is simply…love. Love that causes one to fall, to grow, to gain knowledge and sacrifice everything for something — or someone — they believe in. Love that has the ability to make an angel feel, cry, grieve. Love that is cosmic and transformative.
Dean may have shattered right along with the tablet, but Castiel will only be interested in piecing one of them back together again. Love, the most powerful instrument in the history of the universe, is what will bring Dean Winchester back to himself once again.

6x20/9x14
Hey, I just noticed the color-coordination. The angels are pretty much always dressed well. They’re supposed to have a certain respect for their vessels, so they maintain a good appearance. But notice that the first group in 6x20 matches in black. Everything is very simple for them. It’s literally black-and-white. They follow Cas as the next leader over Raphael because it’s the only route they see. Now look at his little ducklings in 9x14. They’re still dressed conservatively, but the common color is steel blue. It’s a different way, a more varied approach. They chose Cas because he’s converted their thinking and they believe in him, not just because they feel they need to follow.
Oh, and also, blue of course is totally Cas’s color.

Oh wow. I had never even noticed (well, except for Anna, because, obviously).
