It makes so much more sense why he’s somewhat obsessed with space when you realise he helped to build it.
Demons have no place in creation. When he says “I helped build that one,” he’s remembering his life Before. It meant so much to him. Being an angel meant so much to him, and he’s still absolutely devastated that he isn’t one anymore. He’s so Loud about it.
He’s the one puts forward the Arrangement that will allow him to perform holy miracles and blessings again.
He’s the one who decorates his apartment so that it looks as little like the crowded, messy, dirty Hell as possible.
He’s the one who recreates his own little Eden within that apartment, where he can play God and relive his trauma over and over again with himself in the position of power, rejecting any and all of his subjects deemed not to be worthy, without mercy. Because that’s how he sees the Almighty.
He’s the one who is so utterly convinced that God is not listening, because why would he believe they would? He’s been wrestling with his Fall and regret for 6 millenia and God has never come to help him.
He’s the one who insists on the idea that Adam can be reshaped through the power of Influence (read nurture over nature) because that means we always have the power to change and evolve, something he needs to believe in desperately. (Something he turns out to be right about btw).
And his obsession with space, this is the big one. The one aspect of Creation we know he had a part in. When he wants to escape it’s the first and only place he thinks of. Not Heaven, with it’s corporate charity, not Hell, where he never belonged. Space. Among the stars. Where he once walked as he does in his apartment surrounded by floating pages, a dull imitation of the real thing. Among the stars he helped create, where he could forget, and pretend he was an angel once more, surrounded by light.
It’s been a really long time since I enjoyed a sitcom as much as I love One Day at a Time. The diversity and complexity of the characters, the heart and sensitivity of the script, and the moving and hilarious performances by the cast members all combine to create something truly enjoyable and funny.
It’s wholesome, safe, and true to what family means in today’s America. And because it’s written for 2019, the characters develop, and grow, and backslide, and discover new things about themselves. It’s a sitcom without the limitations of the usual tropes and stereotypes that often make sitcoms hard to watch. I haven’t watched and enjoyed a sitcom so much in over a decade.
The show covers topics like coming out as a young teen, immigration and forced deportation, depression and anxiety, PTSD, and addiction with levity but also with great respect to the struggles people face when they experience these moments in life.
Penelope is a fierce, badass Latina mother, a hardworking nurse, a veteran, and someone who has to take antidepressants every day in order maintain a normal lifestyle. Elena is an equally fierce teen feminist, a lesbian, and (from s2 onward) dates a nonbinary kid named Syd. But she also struggles with her father’s homophobia and her grandmother’s expectations of her as a young woman. Scheider is a trust fund kid, a wealthy white man with oodles of privilege and luck - but he’s also a recovering alcoholic/drug addict and a deeply lonely man who considers the Alvarezes to be his true family, because his own is so dysfunctional and loveless.
That’s just three of the most obvious examples of the way this show has worked so hard to establish real, developed characters who still have room to grow. Every single character has depth, and flaws, and compelling personalities. All of the show’s conflicts come from the Alvarez family and friends’ relationships, and their struggles to support and love one another through all of the unexpected things that just come with living life.
Unfortunately, One Day at a Time is in trouble. If more people don’t start watching, we’ll never get to see the fourth season.
I love this show so much, and I hope if you read all of this, you understand why a bit more. Please give it a chance, if you haven’t already. Or maybe even a second chance, if you tried it and were sure it wasn’t your thing. It only gets better as it goes on, and it’s almost impossible not to love every single primary character by the end of the first season. Every finale will leave you in happy tears. It’s an excellent show and it would be such a loss if it isn’t renewed. Please, please give it a try!
Now, on the topic of this gifset/video…WOW Misha….just…control yourself, dude! This is on the breakup timeline and I think I remember people speculating that this auction was a point at which sad!Misha was bitter and possibly drunk. I mean, you can kind of tell that. There is absolutely some bitterness about “our God, Jensen Ackles.”
But what’s up with the leg caressing thing? Like, it’s a reference to the Eye of the Tiger video? But it also sounds like he’s thinking about Jensen caressing someone else’s leg in a way that is totally unrelated to the video. It’s a silly video. It shows him using his leg as a guitar. It’s not…erotic. Just seems like poor Misha’s mouth got ahead of his head here.
in the first gif Misha gently pushes Rob out of the way so he can touch Jensen
in the second gif a bag of rotten onions walks by and Misha’s smile dims for a second as he almost visibly thinks “ugh”, but even that can’t distract him for more than a moment and he goes back to beaming at Jen
even as he’s distracted his fingers run over Jensen’s back so g en t l y
he’s almost pulling Jensen closer
his wrist turns like he’s going to continue his caress up between Jensen’s shoulder blades and he starts to reach
then he curls his fingers and pulls his hand back like he suddenly remembers they’re ON STAGE IN FRONT OF EVERYONE
