Point-by-Point Analysis of the 9.04 Spoiler List Posted on spn-gossip

fandomdebunker:

Given the possibly unclear nature of our original post on the subject, we’re going to break down the list of spoilers here point-by-point and classify each point separately as confirmed, partially confirmed, pending, or debunked. In the original post, we debunked the SOURCE OF THE LIST and suggested that you interpret it based on that; we’re sorry for any confusion we caused.

That said, we’d like to point out that the source of this rumor list is EXTREMELY unreliable. We only consider it a start point for the rumors and NOT a source in of itself, no matter what they say about their connections.

Many of the statements in the list are made in a very speculative way, which makes it more difficult to confirm or deny them. Please also remember that even if the anonymous source is being honest about their connection, we’re still seeing these spoilers through the filter of the person who originally saw the script and the anonymous person who posted them.

To reiterate from our original post, the source of the rumor list is an anonymous poster on the spn-gossip livejournal page. You can see the original post here

What was confirmed to me as fact:
  • There will be canon Destiel this season, and it feature in 9.04. Sorry guys.
  • By canon Destiel, I mean that Dean and Castiel are going to be in an acknowledged romantic relationship.

PENDING — We don’t know anything about whether Destiel will be canon or not.

  • Sam & Charlie are both supportive of it.

PENDING — This would probably be a reasonable assumption based on Sam and Charlie’s characters if the first two points above are true.

  • Sam does NOT consider the bunker to be his home and has no plans to “nest” there.
  • Sam wants to keep fighting the good fight with Dean, but does not plan to actually LIVE with him forever.

CONFIRMEDAt the SDCC panel, Bob Singer said,

I think that the Men-of-Letters bunker for Dean is a home….For Sam it’s a workplace, he doesn’t think of it as home, but he’s very much comfortable in the academic pursuits that one can follow in the Men-of-Letters bunker…

(So, if you’re keeping track, this was said BEFORE the spoiler list appeared on spn-gossip.) These sentiments are echoed again in a recent hypable article

According to Carver, we’re also going to learn more about Sam’s feelings about the Men of Letters bunker in this episode. Dean has clearly found a home there and, while Jared Padalecki believes that Sam sees it as a place for work, this may just be the tip of the iceberg, based on Carver’s hinting.

(Note: the notion that Sam “does not plan to actually LIVE with [Dean] forever” is more speculative, and we can’t confirm that unless Sam says so explicitly in the show.)

  • The first two MOL inhabitants were a gay couple.

PENDING — We do know that the episode will feature the first MoL through flashbacks though. Jeremy Carver says in this interview, “in fact we’re going to see the first two MoL to ever inhabit the bunker in 1935.”

  • There are cheesy “over the rainbow” “friend of Dorothy” jokes — urban dictionary that last one if you don’t get it.

PENDING — Although the episode WILL be Wizard of Oz themed, and assuming the first few points above are true, some Oz-inspired-jokes would be par for the course in SPN writing.

  • Dean’s “big secret” this season is NOT related to Destiel, since Sam’s aware of that. It’s what Dean ends up doing to keep Sam alive & the changes Sam is undergoing as a result.

CONFIRMED — In Jeremy Carver’s words, “The way Sam heals involves a big secret between Sam and Dean that Sam is not aware of and that Dean keeps from him.” (That would also negate destiel as an option. This interview is also from SDCC and released prior to the spn-gossip spoiler list.)

What was heavily implied to me but not confirmed as fact:

  • Destiel will not be the MAIN focus of season 9, but it will be non-trivial part of it.

PENDING — But it stands to reason that even if Destiel were made canon, it would not be a main focus of the show.

  • Destiel is Dean’s “Who am I?”/”Who do I want to be?” plot.

PENDING — Although Jeremy Carver’s comment from here may be relevant: “…we and Sam are gonna learn a side of Dean that we’ve never known before.” (However, he also says that will happen in “an episode that’s not much fun” and describes 9.04 as “a really fun, relatively elaborate episode.”)

  • There will be no long-term female love interests for Dean or Cas this year.

PENDING — Although it’s a reasonable assumption given past seasons of the show. (It might be also good to note that while Misha talks about sex in Cas’ future, he responds to the topic of “Romance?” with “Well, there’s sex.” He also never says anything about women in that discussion.)

  • Despite this, Cas WILL decide to try to become an angel again, which will obviously throw a huge wrench in the relationship if not end it completely.

PARTIALLY CONFIRMED — In this article, Bob Singer discusses Castiel’s decision whether or not to become an angel again:

As he goes along and becomes more adept he kind of embraces the human life, but as the war between the angels becomes more heated there’s a real push-pull.  ‘Do I stay here and do this and be a worthwhile human being?  Or do I have to get back into the fray?  And if I do how do I do it?’

Which implies some serious thought on Cas’ part at the least. (And if you’re keeping track, was also published prior to the spoiler list.)

  • Just because they get together does not mean they’ll still be together at the end of the season.

CONFIRMED — This statement is not a logical fallacy. The way this point is stated, there’s nothing to confirm or debunk though; IF Dean and Castiel do have a “romantic” or “canon” thing/relationship, that DOES NOT MEAN that they will still be “together” in any capacity at the end of the season. It also DOES NOT MEAN THEY WON’T. (Just so everyone’s clear on what we mean by confirming this.)

ALL OF THESE ARE SPOILERS and just like all the other spoilers we post we CANNOT GUARANTEE them any farther than what we’ve said above. We also reserve the right to update them at any time based on new information.

NOTES:

  • It’s possible that the source of these spoilers is telling the truth—we cannot debunk ANY of these spoilers out of hand (EXCEPT FOR THE TITLE OF THE EPISODE—which, as we’ve previously noted, could have been changed).
  • It’s also possible that the source of these spoilers is lying, based on the title, and the fact that everything we can confirm or partially confirm here was available on the internet as a spoiler prior to the source posting this list on spn-gossip.
  • We CANNOT and WILL NOT tell you what you should or shouldn’t believe. We do suggest that you have fun and take all spoilers (even those from TPTB; see Misha that troll) with a large grain of rock-salt.
