It’s been almost 3 years and I still can’t believe someone was cheeky enough to put “BIG O” on a slushie machine and have Cas BLOW THE LID WHILE TALKING TO DEAN.
2: she’s not wrong, that is literally the plot of the episode
3: Having recently re-watched this it strikes me even more that she seems pretty sure he’s gay from the start, especially since literally every female on the show and half the dudes compliment his smoking appearance so there has to be a canon reason why she was thinking of him as “helpful babysitting friend” not “I should really hit that” when the show otherwise portrays everyone as impressed with his face.
4: She totally saw Dean hanging around outside her house at the end of the episode to give Cas a lift into the fan fiction gap.
5: She knows Steve brought his boyfriend to her house while she was out.
6: Considering they cleaned up after a fight/disposed of a body there, the house was presumably suspiciously clean and tidy (and smelled of cleaning products) compared to how she left it.
7: Once she realises no.6 she is going to be forever convinced that Dean and Cas did it on every surface in her kitchen.
I was just pondering the whole "jilted lover" bit of 9X06 and I've seen a few passing comments of people suggesting that Nora believed that Dean was Cas' ex. I'd love to see something deeper and more comprehensive about HOW she came off that way. Other than them obviously having a connection, I thought maybe some people saw or heard things from Nora's perspective specifically that I overlooked.
Well it was my perception and if you rewatch it with that in mind I think it makes far more sense than anything else really.
She sees that he is a wandering, kind of lost person with a heart of gold, with no family or friends and apparently running away from something or someone.
She acts like, I’m sorry, but a stereotypical woman who perceives that a guy is queer. She sees him as a non-threat, she kisses him excitedly but chastly on the lips and trusts him to look after her baby… I mean, it is quite stereotypical…
She gives this look (which is so similar to Mary in 12x01 by the way, when she is also appraising Dean/Cas for the first time), when she sees Steve talking to Dean:
then, Nora: “Hate to interrupt you guys…”
She seems to me to be putting two and two together that this is the seemingly arrogant guy who dumped Steve and led him to be here, that he is Steve’s ex.
She then seems not surprised at all that Dean is there at her house when she left Steve to babysit?! That Steve called Dean when he had a worrisome moment over the baby?
Yeah, that’s how I read it…
Oh Nora! Add her to the list of “they all know” if she isn’t already on there. This picture of her watching the guys is PERFECT. Not to mention how many people have looked at Dean and assumed he wasn’t straight as well.
1+1=2
^^This! I keep saying the same thing – Nora for sure thought that 1) they were romantically involved, and 2) Dean had no egging business trying to take her kind, hardworking employee out on a dateafter kicking him to the curb. What did Steve even see in you? Stop bothering your ex!
I still can’t believe 9x06 actually happened *sighs* Most people have noticed this already, but please let me flail again.
Friendly reminder that we witnessed-
- which was reminiscent of 6x12 Buffy telling Spike -
(Spike says ‘yeah, and you chose to be in the consumer profession and I’m a consumer. Service me.’ He later adds ‘you don’t belong here. You’re something…you’re better than this.’
Dean: ‘This is not you, man.You are above this.’
Yes, the whole Gas N Sip Destiel exchange was basically IDENTICAL in dialogue and framing)
**Also, I don’t see people talking about SNF often** We got Dean’s Saturday Night Fever Pining In the Car exhibition where Dean is Annette:Tony Manero’s best friend who, alongside asking him to be her dance partner, is silently pining for Tony (and a more permanent relationship with him).
Cas is Tony: his family’s black sheep. He leaves Annette – and her pining heart behind – to seek the pretty mysterious Stephanie. She replaces Annette as Tony’s dance partner. In the context of the Pining scene & SNF, Nora = Stephanie.
Random (or maybe not) fun fact: Tony borrows his friend Bobby’s 1964 Chevy Impala later on.
In 9x06 alone, Destiel was paralleled to both romantic pairings Tony/Annette and Buffy/Spike. SPN never ceases to amaze me.
Let’s not disturb them, okay? Carry on with the party!
