Parallels between Dean/Cas + Jeffrey and his demon in 7x15.

I think about this a lot, and this post from s-cornelius got me thinking about exactly when I felt a definite shift in how Dean and Cas’ relationship was written, and for me it was 7x15. A few episodes later Dean comes face-to-face with Cas, after having mourned his loss for months and months, and the pain of Cas not remembering him is written all over his face. Dean is devastated when Cas doesn’t know who he is, just as Jeffrey was devastated when his demon no longer wanted to possess him.

While Carver era truly did bring the intentional structure into play, the end of season 7 is still very important for Dean and Cas’ relationship. Jeffrey believed his demon would come back to him in 7x15, and it was written that Dean told Cas that a part of him always believed he’d come back in 7x17. Jeffrey called his demon the love of his life, and it’s not that much of a stretch to believe that Dean feels that way about his angel.

My favorite part though? Jeffrey’s demon greeted him in the exact same manner that Cas has always greeted Dean…

Season 7 may have been a mess in so many ways but this episode was very important. Bless Ben Edlund his existence on this Earth is a gift to us all.

SPN Season 1: Let's use Christo to find out if they're a demon
SPN Seasons 2-4: Let's exorcise all demons to save their vessels
SPN Seasons 5-9: Lol let's stab the guy and see if he glows when he dies

“You should seriously find yourself another hobby, Father.”

AU: Demon!Dean’s bound to Crowley due to the Mark, cursed into serving the King of Hell as his personal hitman for the next century. As for Father Novak, he’s been ruthelessly hunting Dean for the last couple of years and Dean likes to think the only reason he lets him live after each encounter is because Crowley’s to-do list is fucking endless and he’s got too many other sons of bitches to take care of. It has nothing to do with how entertaining the inexperienced hunter actually is. Not at all. It’s not that he’s gotten attached to Cas always trailing after him or anything.

GUYS HOLY FUCKING SHIT. THE VASHTA NERADA WEREN’T ALIENS. THEY WERE FUCKING DEMONS. The first photo shows the little girl from ‘Silence in the Library’ laying on some sort of symbol. Next, the symbol was repeated on the television after The Doctor spoke to the little girl.
The third photo is from season one of Supernatural ‘Shadow’. Dean sees the blood spatter of a woman who appeared to be murdered by a shadow. He connects the drops of blood with tape. And what does he find?
THE SAME FUCKING SYMBOL.
Then Sam finds a pattern in blood that Meg made after talking to the shadow demons.

That’s why the Doctor was so scared. That’s why we’re scared of the dark. The Vashta Nerada are demons.
