someone did an AWESOME fan comic with Dean talking about loving pie but being open to loving cake too should the right cake come into his life - does anyone remember that and have a link? I think we should bring it back into circulation due to relevance :)
What really gets me about this is that Adam admitted to using fan suggested “Dean-isms” while writing this episode. I remember him tweeting this a while back, though I can’t find the tweet anymore… I remember looking at the replies to it and there was an overwhelming amount of people yelling “PIE!” at him.
So of course, It would be super easy for him to use pie in that scene, especially since, if they were trying to remind you of Hansel & Gretel, well… the witch used cake and candy to lure them in, because those were things they enjoyed.
That comic of Dean & Sam about Cake and Pie is extremely popular in fandom. I wouldn’t doubt that Glass has seen it. In an episode where Dean admits to being an alcoholic, and unapologetically loves a Taylor Swift song, I don’t think it’s too crazy of an idea to assume that we’re supposed to see Dean as beginning to accept all parts of himself that he has usually repressed, including his bisexuality.
I also think it’s so interesting, because so many people seemed to notice the cake and the absence of pie.

It’s 4:30 in the morning and I should be sleeping or replying to some asks that are still in my inbox, but I’m doing neither of those right now. I woke up andcouldn’t get back to sleep because I had so many Dean feels! Adam Glass is notamong my favorite Supernatural writers, but I don’t dislike his episodes. Inthis case, however, I have to admit that I really, really liked everything he did
with Dean in 10x12. That’s why I’ll mention in this post two specific things that caught my attention: Taylor Swift and cake. I don’t know if I will be the only one reading too much into this, but… sorry, I can’t help it!
We all know
Dean Winchester is a character with layers and layers of repressed feelings
(even evil!Charlie called him out on this in the previous episode). In case we
ever had doubts, the song about Dean in 10x05 basically confirmed his
“manly sheen”.
So my sister got run over by a car once. It was a pretty big deal. Well like a year later she got into a little fender bender and was really bent out of shape about it, so I went and got her a cake.
When I put in my order for the cake, the guy at the bakery asked, “Do you want it to say anything?”
And with a perfectly straight face, I said, “‘Sorry you got hit by a car again.’”
He narrowed his eyes a moment, then nodded and wrote it down, and took it to kitchen to get the writing done.
All the way from the back of the kitchen, I hear a woman shout, “‘Again’?!”
I work in a cake shop and I have to check all orders for delivery before they get sent out, my first shift involved me bringing out a huge 10 inch cake that weighed at least 13 pounds with the words ‘FUCKITY BYE!’ In capitals and attached was a gift message of ‘smell ya later Louise’
I made a rainbow cake for my first college party. I covered it in black frosting and dusted it with white sprinkles so it would be very dramatic when it was cut into. The cake was thrown onto a table with a bunch of other desserts and kind of forgotten about; the host had taken it from me with a look of ‘I can’t believe this idiot freshman made a fucking black cake.’
Cue two hours later when someone cut into it and screamed, “JESUS FUCKING CHRIST, COME AND SEE THIS CAKE.”
After that, I had more friends than I knew what to do with.
