profoundbondmates:

Sudden feelings about a Harry Potter AU where Dean doesn’t get a Hogwarts letter. He has no magical powers. He’s a muggle. Sam does get a letter and off he goes to Hogwarts.

Dean hates it. He hates being separated from his little brother, hates that there’s this part of Sam’s life he can’t be involved with, but he never resents Sam. He only wishes he could do magic so he could understand this part of Sam’s life, not because he has any desire for magic.

The years go by, Dean gets a job working in a garage after leaving school and Sam is doing really well at Hogwarts. He always writes to Dean and while it’s odd to get owls delivering letters, Dean’s used to it. Sam can’t do magic outside of school until he passes some kind of test so the summer holidays are just the two of them hanging out, having adventures.

In Sam’s letters he keeps mentioning this guy, Cas, and Dean thinks Sam probably has a little crush on Cas - this expert duelist who’s top in his class for Ancient Runes but who’s also acing Arithmancy and Care of Magic Creatures. Dean knows almost as much about what classes Cas is taking as he knows about Sam. He builds up a picture in his head of Cas, but nothing prepares him for the young man who Sam brings home over the holidays.

Shy doesn’t even begin to describe it. Castiel, that’s his full name, appears and disappears like a ghost. He hardly says two words to Dean but stares at him intently when he thinks Dean doesn’t notice. Dean thought he’d be confident overachiever like Sam but Castiel stares at him as if he’s never seen a muggle before. Sam later tells him that Castiel hasn’t, that his family are pureblood, whatever that means and this is Castiel’s first time in a muggle household.

Both Sam and Castiel are seventeen now, in their last year. Sam wants to join the ministry, he’s interested in law. Castiel doesn’t seem to have any plans. Dean takes him to the garage one day, just to show him what he does. Sam stays home studying.

It’s unnerving working on the car with Castiel staring at him. Dean ends up talking more than he usually does. He describes everything he’s doing, trying to get a response from Castiel but the boy says nothing.

Dean fixes the car without Castiel saying a word.

He only speaks when Dean’s finishes, wiping his greasy hands on a rag.

“You’re dirty,” he says. His eyes flicker up to look at Dean’s face and something in his expression catches Dean off-guard.

“Yeah,” he mutters. “Do you…do you like that?”

Dean doesn’t know if he’s trying to mess with Castiel, to get a rise out of him or if he means it but Castiel’s cheeks go red and that’s a pretty look on him.

“Yes, I do.” Castiel says, nodding.

This should be the moment where Dean laughs, were he draws a line under the whole thing and they go home to Sam, but he doesn’t laugh.

“Do you want to be dirty too?” he asks.

Castiel nods again, his blue eyes wide.

Dean drags him close, runs his hands up and down Castiel’s body, leaving big oily prints over him. Castiel shivers, pressing himself determinedly against Dean. Kissing seems inevitable after that. Fucking Castiel in the back seat of the car he just fixed just kind of happens too. It’s complicated what they have but once Dean’s touched him, he can’t stop.

They don’t bother to hide it from Sam. Sam just rolls his eyes and tells them to keep it down while he’s studying. Castiel smiles and Dean can’t help wondering if Sam knew all along that Cas was interested in him.

So that’s how Dean, the muggle, ended up with a pureblood boyfriend named Castiel.

And oh boy, Castiel’s family wasn’t happy about it.
