So again Meredith Glynn gives us all the Buffy parallels. This deal Cas made is essentially the Romani curse put on Angelus. At the precise moment of Castiel’s peak happiness, he will be snatched from everything he loves. If that doesn’t sound like it’s setting up some canon Destiel, I don’t know what does. I love Meredith, you guys. I love her. She knows what she’s about. I’m tagging @dimples-of-discontent because I know she’ll agree with me.

I haven’t even seen the episode because I was at a work event until just now but I already KNOW that I agree with you! Meredith Glynn is a huge “Buffy” fan (as we documented when we were talking about the parallels between Dean and S7 Spike). She does know what she’s doing and she’s setting up a version of “Becoming” (or, if you prefer because you’re Spuffy shipper like me, a combination of Angel’s curse and Spike’s “die right after they say they love you” moment). And whoever you regard as endgame (*cough*SPIKE*cough*) let’s recall that both Angel and Spike came back after these moments. Because they are TROPE-FREAKING-TASTIC!! “Angst with a happy ending,” yeah?

I know we are all sad and it’s sad!!! But…but…imagine. It’s the season finale in May. Somehow, miraculously, finally, Dean and Cas have been honest about their feelings for one another. Cas knows that he is loved! And by the person he loves! The Empty comes and takes Cas away. Dean refuses to live like he did before when Cas died, especially now that he knows his feelings are reciprocated. Cas came back from there once - he can do it again! The setup for Season 15 (maybe the last season?) is Getting Cas Back. 

I’m not saying it WILL go this way or that it HAS to…I’m just saying that it COULD and that the setup we are being given makes it seem more probable.

@coinofstone @castielslostwings additionally suggested possible D/C flashback use (sex scene flashbacks, that is) in the same vein of BTvS 2x14 with Buffy/Angel sex scene flashbacks interspersed throughout x. Heartbroken Dean paralleling Buffy, here. And I’m crossing my fingers for it.
