Good Omens is by far one of my favorite books. The sarcasm and humor are so well written, the fact you and Terry Prachett wrote it so flawlessly makes it all the more worthwhile. My best friend and I also dream of co authoring a book and we do have a story in mind, but we have drastically different writing styles. Do you have any pointers that could help us write more cohesively?

neil-gaiman:

Terry and I both had a style in mind when we started: Classic English Humour. It was what Alan Coren and Richmal Crompton and P.G. Wodehouse and A.G. Macdonnell and Brahms and Simon and many other writers had written in. So we were writing the same thing.

When Michael Reaves and I wrote the first Interworld novel we talked about style, and decided that the Heinlein Juveniles, like Have Spacesuit Will Travel, felt right. So we were both writing in the same key.

Have a style you agree on you can both write in. Even if it isn’t either of your natural styles.
