Oh buddy, you picked the wrong day to send this in. I’m going to start off by saying it literally takes no effort to be kind to someone. Your message came across as rude and insulting in my opinion and if you have a problem with something I am doing, by all means, message me off anon and we can talk about this like adults.

But since we’re going to hide behind a grey anonymous face, we’re going to do it the hard way.

Lucas Scott once said “Your art matters. It’s what got me here.”

Every single piece of art on this website MATTERS. My writing matters. My fellow writers work MATTERS! The artists, the gif makers, the photographers. It’s all art.

Art is defined by  the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power. The various branches of creative activity, such as painting, music, literature, and dance. x

Just because this is “tumblr” doesn’t mean that it doesn’t matter. It matters to a whole lot of people. Clearly it matters to you since you’re the one reading it. Correct?

Now let me ask you this, anon. Do you work for free? Have you ever turned in an essay or a test at school and literally been handed it back without so much as a single scratch on it? Have you ever worked so fucking hard on something for it to not be acknowledged? My guess is probably no to at least 2 of those.

What makes writing fan fiction any different?

I believe I can speak on behalf of other writers like myself when I say that we spent HOURS/DAYS/WEEKS/MONTHS planning, writing and editing our fics for people to read. We do it for free. We do it because we love it. We do it because we’re sharing a piece of who we are with complete strangers and you know what, other’s love it too.

Feedback is a way of paying us back without so much as a penny. We desperately want to hear that our hard work has been paid off. When we don’t get it, then we wonder if we should even bother? Why spend all that time if no one is going to tell us that we’re doing an amazing job?

Feedback is motivation to us writers. So I will tell you that I WILL NEVER STOP “BEGGING” FOR FEEDBACK! NEVER NEVER NEVER!

You don’t want to see it? By all means, there is an unfollow button. I don’t particularly want you following me now that you’ve sent me this lovely love note.

I’m going to keep doing my thing! xoxox

First off I would like to say that was a very adult way to handle this @supernatural-jackles and you definitely don’t deserve the hate. Also, I love the Lucas Scott quote.😅

Second, I’ve been seeing a lot of anon hate about writers wanting feedback. I get it that it may come off as annoying or needy to some, but those of you who feel that way need to understand that feedback is what keeps us as writers going.

When we get a like or a reblog, that’s fantastic, but there’s nothing like the feeling you get when someone leaves a nice critical comment or tells you how much they love your writing.

When we don’t recieve feedback it makes us feel like maybe that certain writing wasn’t as great as we’d hoped or that people don’t really care and it’s kind of a bundle of nerves and anxiety to see that no one is responding to something we put our hearts and souls into.

So, anon, maybe think about both sides of the spectrum before spouting off like that. Just gonna add my own OTH quote here…

Hate is a choice. Don’t do it. -Chase Adams A.K.A Bar Manager

Reblogging for Danielle’s comment ^^

A+ OTH quote is just a plus!

It baffles me that people take time out of their lives to criticize people asking for feedback, kudos, comments, etc. Nobody says you have to read those requests, you can scroll on by! It takes 1 second, rather than who knows how long to lodge a complaint.

For people like me, who read on stories on mobile in stolen moments throughout the day, it is a very helpful prompt. I’ll often find myself wanting to leave a comment, and then forgetting by the time I make it to the end of the chapter.

Message to fic writers and artists:

You guys do amazing work! From those who are just beginning to dip your toes in the Fanworks ocean to veteran sailors and life guards of the crazy storms that rock the fandoms - You change lives!

I can’t count how many times a piece of cute fan art, a perfect compilation of text and gifs, and/or the right amount of fluff or smut in a fic has changed my entire day. My life is very stressful, and various fanworks are what keep me sane!

Thank you so much for your contributions to Fandom Communities!
