Supernatural 11x15 | Beyond the Mat

There’s been a lot to say about how Dean watches this match, but I’d like to focus on Sam for a second. The first few times I watched this scene (with my focus on Dean), in the back of my mind I thought Sam’s level of engagement was sort of odd and just funny. Then, something clicked.

While Dean’s ogling the sweaty man meat and is basically just along for the ride, Sam’s taking an active role.

He shouts encouragement, gives a warning to Gunnar, and looks to a higher power (the ref) asking for intervention. He’s acting, while Dean simply reacts.
